Dexter Greyer, 28, has been sentenced to 60 years in state prison after being convicted of four counts of sexual assault, two counts of aggravated assault and one count of kidnapping for crimes committed in January 2024 in Chandler.
Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell announced this week that a man who was recently convicted of committing a violent crime in Chandler has been sentenced.
Dexter Greyer, 28, has been sentenced to 60 years in state prison after being convicted of four counts of sexual assault, two counts of aggravated assault and one count of kidnapping.
In January 2024, according to a news release, a woman was waiting for a bus in the Chandler area to go to work when Greyer approached her in a car, offering a ride because the bus was running late.
Trusting his offer of help, she accepted.
Instead of taking her to her destination, police stated, Greyer drove her to a nearby alley in Chandler, where he sexually assaulted her, strangled her, and prevented her from escaping.
After Greyer fled the area, the victim immediately sought help, which Mitchell described in the news release as "brave."
The quick reporting led to a rapid police response and an investigation by the Chandler Police Department, the release states.
Physical evidence, including DNA collected from the victim’s clothing, identified Greyer as the suspect, the release states. Detectives later found and arrested him at an apartment complex in Phoenix.
“This victim showed incredible strength and courage, both in surviving this brutal attack and in working closely with detectives and prosecutors to hold her attacker accountable,” Mitchell stated. “This sentence ensures that a dangerous individual will be removed from our community for decades.”
Greyer was convicted on these charges:
Four counts of sexual assault, a Class 2 felony
Two counts of aggravated assault, a Class 6 felony
One count of kidnapping, a Class 2 felony
