An archer, Aavishka Pattem, was recognized at the Dec. 8 Chandler City Council meeting for her accomplishments. From the left are Council member Jennifer Hawkins, Pattem’s parents and brother, Pattem and Mayor Kevin Hartke.
Chandler’s mayor and the City Council has hosted and recognized resident champions from many sports.
On Dec. 8, that sport was archery.
Mayor Kevin Hartke and the Council recognized archer and Hamilton High School student Aavishka Pattem. She’s been training archery for about four years — the last two years as a member of a regional elite team — with a goal of competing in the 2028 or 2032 Summer Olympics.
Hartke said he met Pattem at a recent Indian event in Mesa. He said Pattem told him she was inspired by archery in the films The Hunger Games, The Brave and Braveheart and did some of her first learning on a range at Chandler’s Paseo Vista Park.
Pattem was due to travel to Paris, France for an international competition in January.
“Over the past four years, I’ve dedicated myself to developing focus, discipline and perseverance through this sport,” she said. “I’m so grateful for the support of my family and my community. I hope to keep representing Chandler well and to inspire other youth to pursue their passions.”
Pattem took photos with her family, Hartke and Council member Jennifer Hawkins.
