Chandler Council: Concrete, new fee schedule, state legislature

Posted

A pair of contracts for concrete repair and maintenance services is one of the most high-dollar items on one of the Chandler City Council’s agendas this week.

A pair of contracts, totaling more than $8.1 million, are set to be awarded to Vincon Engineering Construction, LLC, and Temcon Concrete Construction, LLC. That’s one of dozens of items on the council’s Monday study session agenda.

Monday’s study session is part of the council’s only public-meeting week of December. The study session is set for 6 p.m., following a regular council meeting as the council meeting.

Those will follow Monday’s 4 p.m. work session, which will be on the topic of the city’s legislative agenda to address advocacy activities at the Arizona Legislature and with the federal government during 2025 legislative sessions.

There will also be a regular council meeting Thursday, Dec. 12, 6 p.m., where the council can take action on items from Monday’s study session.

All these meetings are set to be held at City Hall, 88 E. Chicago St., Downtown Chandler.

Monday’s regular meeting will include service recognitions and separate recognitions. These include a Chandler Exchange Club award to firefighters and police officers and staff recognition for a recent win at the Rocky Mountain Emmy Awards.

There is one action item on Monday’s study session agenda, presumably to go to a council vote at the Thursday, Dec. 12 meeting. That’s a resolution to amend the citywide fee schedule, which was continued from a November meeting.

After a year and a half of staff calculations, public input committee and council work-session effort, council was set to take a final vote on new Jan. 1, 2025 fees at its Nov. 7 meeting.

Vice Mayor O.D. Harris, concerned with costs being passed along to Chandler residents, convinced enough of his colleagues to continue the approval in order to examine some of the fees, especially parks and recreation.

One example of a proposed increase, as listed in the agenda packet for the study session, is the resident fee for ball field reservation with no lights.

That’s set to rise from $11 per hour this year to $14 per hour in 2025 for Chandler residents, while non-residents will see a rise from $14 to $19 per hour.
