Workforce-focused multifamily development before Apache Junction council in September

The Apache Junction Planning and Zoning Commission is forwarding no recommendation to the city council on a permit for a planned 210-unit, two- and three-story Banyan Apartments rental community.

The council is to hold a public hearing on the permit at a 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, meeting in the council chambers, 300 E. Superstition Blvd.

The commission voted 3-3 on Aug. 25 on a motion for approval of a conditional use permit for the 9-acre Bella Norte Apartments development at the northeast corner of Idaho Road and Junction Street, with the vote failing. Voting yes were Commissioner Nicholas Kelley, Chairman Dave Hantzsche and Commissioner Jesse Gage. Dissenting were Commissioners Ari Kalan, Roy Starr and Sandra Mykland. Vice Chair Robin Barker was absent.
