Vote ‘yes’ on Proposition 493 to extend Apache Junction mayor term to four years
Apache Junction Mayor Chip Wilson (Apache Junction)
Proposition 493 proposes to extend the Apache Junction mayoral term from two years to four years, the same length of service currently held by city councilmembers. Voting “yes” supports greater continuity, cost-efficiency, and more effective local representation.
A two-year term limits the mayor’s ability to focus on fulfilling his duties to the community. Instead, it forces a cycle of near-constant fundraising and campaigning, which distracts from representing Apache Junction’s best interests. It also hinders progress on large scale initiatives such as infrastructure, economic development, and regional partnerships. An extended term would allow the mayor more time in office to assess problems, engage with residents, develop solutions, and measure outcomes.
A four-year term allows mayors to spend more time serving the community and less time preparing for reelection. It creates better alignment with council term lengths. This change also supports long-term relationship-building with regional councils and community stakeholders, all who are key in ensuring our city’s voice remains strong across Arizona.

Extending the term will create alignment with the 18 other valley cities who already utilize a four-year term length, allowing for enhanced long-term relationships with our neighboring communities. A “yes” vote not only supports greater sustainability with these partnerships, but also in actualizing goals and progress on behalf of Apache Junction.
Equally important, is that accountability to voters would still remain intact. Residents will continue to elect their mayor at the same time intervals they do their councilmembers, and checks and balances for transparency, public meetings, and recall options would remain available.
A “yes” vote ensures more stable leadership, more effective representation, and a stronger foundation for our city’s future.
As the current mayor, and on behalf of those who will serve in this office after me, I thank you for your support.
