Roberts: Police working to reduce crime on CAC campuses

Posted

The Central Arizona College Police Department has worked very hard to reduce the crime rate over the last three years.

The department has increased officer patrols on all campuses, improved community relationships with our partners, and enhanced the number of cameras and emergency Blue Towers on each campus.

The department has improved the training being offered to its officers. Over the last three years, Central Arizona College Police Department officers have received community policing and crime prevention training.

Each officer is mandated to work on a community project to strengthen the department’s partnership with our students, staff, faculty and Pinal County partners. For example, over the last three years officers have completed threat-assessment evaluations at each campus; provided defensive tactics training to students, staff and faculty; and have been instrumental in providing crime prevention techniques throughout the CAC district.

The Central Arizona College Police Department has a great relationship with our area law-enforcement partners.

As a Pinal County Law Enforcement Association member, our department can exchange information with area law enforcement. Chief Gregory L. Roberts is a PCLEA board member and often discusses the teamwork between the Pinal County law-enforcement Agencies.

With CAC campuses being spread out throughout the county, it is common for the Apache Junction Police Department, Pinal County Sheriffs Office, Casa Grande Police Department, Maricopa Police Department and Florence Police Department to be seen on one of our campuses. They could be assisting with a call, conducting training, or on routine patrol completing paperwork.
