Old shipping containers may get new life as storage for homes on less than 1.25 acres

The Apache Junction council on Dec. 1 is set to direct city staff on amending cargo container regulations in the zoning code, possibly allowing smaller ones on residential lots of less than 1.25 acres.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the council chambers, 300 E. Superstition Blvd.

Cargo containers less than 40 feet long used for permanent storage are only permitted in a residential zoning district with a minimum lot size of 1.25 gross acres. They may also be used for storage at commercial and industrial sites. Either way, a permit application must be filed and be approved by the city.
