IDs sought of theft suspects who stole toilet paper, beer keg

Help is being sought to identify suspects in the March 22 theft of a case of toilet paper and a keg of beer from Best Western Gold Canyon Inn and Suites, 8333 E. Sunrise Sky Drive.

The theft occurred around 1 p.m. March 22, with two people shown on security-camera videos at the hotel and also at the Rodeo Lounge, General Manager Pat Tanna said.

The photos were shared on social-media accounts but no one came forward with identifications of the suspects, she said.

“The photos were taken from our camera system and also The Rodeo Lounge’s. We watched the video footage immediately after the theft and pulled still shots from the videos. We also posted the pictures on social media within an hour of the theft,” Ms. Tanna said.

“The post was shared numerous times. We had a few people say the two suspects looked familiar from local bars in Apache Junction but no one would give us a name,” she said.

The suspects parked in front of the hotel and walked in the front doors, she said.

“The hotel had minimal employees on staff because of the COVID shutdown. Also the Rodeo Lounge was closed due to the shutdown,” Ms. Tanna said.

“The suspects roamed around the hotel for some time. They managed to find an unlocked door to enter through that led them to a storage room for the Rodeo Lounge,” she said.

The storage room led to outside where the Rodeo Lounge has a camera.

“They came through that door the first time with a full case of toilet paper from the Best Western. The suspects had propped the outside door open so they could re-enter. They came back after a few minutes and carried two empty kegs of beer to their car,” she said.

One suspect stayed in the car and the other came back and put the two empty kegs back in the storage room, she said.

“He then managed to carry out a full keg of Bud Light and load that up in their car and then left,” Ms. Tanna said.

The toilet paper is valued at around $52 and the beer was around $200, she said.

Customers from a distance saw the two suspects load the full keg and drive away with it, she said.

“They called me to tell me what they had just witnessed and we were there in 10 minutes. We reported the incident to the police and they took the report over the phone but did not come out,” she said.

Anyone with information on the suspects should call Pinal County Sheriff’s Office Deputy L. Sanchez, badge No. 2369, at 520-866-5111. It is report No. 200322085.
