Apache Junction Public Library to celebrate new outdoor Superstition Reading Garden

Posted

Join the Apache Junction Public Library as it celebrates with a ribbon cutting at the new Superstition Reading Garden 4-6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22.

Following the ribbon cutting ceremony at the library, 1177 N. Idaho Road, guests can enjoy rock painting, giveaways and family-friendly activities. Attendees can also enjoy refreshments from a beverage truck on-site during the celebration.

The new 20,000-square-foot outdoor reading garden extends the library beyond its walls, creating a welcoming space surrounded by native plants with views of the iconic Superstition Mountains. The garden has a greenhouse, six raised garden beds, shaded tables, a 50-seat amphitheater and a storage shed, according to a release.

“Our seed library started four years ago and has led us to this reading garden,” Library Director Pam Harrison said in the release. “We are thrilled to offer our community a welcoming outdoor space to read and learn while taking in the breathtaking views of the Superstition Mountains.”

The garden will be used as an outdoor classroom for gardening workshops, educational programs, story times, and other community activities throughout the year.

The Superstition Reading Garden is supported by the Arizona State Library, Archives & Public Records, a division of the Secretary of State, with funds appropriated by the Arizona State Legislature.
