Apache Junction Police Department unveils new patch

Posted

The Apache Junction Police Department recently rolled out a new patch officers will now wear on their uniforms.

“I’m excited about this new patch because it shows what Apache Junction is about,” Police Chief Michael Pooley said in a release. “It has a southwestern feel and features the Superstition Mountains, the iconic backdrop of the city that draws people to Apache Junction.”

The Superstition Mountains are the focal point of the patch. Other design elements include the Arizona flag and the iconic saguaro cactus. The word “police” arches over the desert landscape to symbolize the police department’s commitment to protecting the city, the people who call it home and all who visit, the release states.

“We as your police department are here to serve and protect and to oversee the safety of anybody who comes to Apache Junction,” Chief Pooley said.

“We want to keep that small-town feel where people know each other, where people have pride in their community,” Chief Pooley said. “We know that the city is attracting younger families and young professionals who want to come here and be part of something special.”

The patch is one of many upgrades for the department including new uniforms, a renovated headquarters, new equipment, advanced technology and the upcoming addition of a K9 unit. The previous patch was designed in the 1980s.
