Apache Junction library board opens materials to all ages

Posted

The Apache Junction Public Library board of trustees has approved a policy removing age restrictions on all library materials.

The policy follows the American Library Association guidance that librarians cannot act as parents or guardians for patrons under the age of 18 and should not infringe on First Amendment rights, according to a release.

The board approved the change at its June 24 meeting. The policy goes into effect on Aug. 2.

The library, 1177 N. Idaho Road, acquires new materials each week in a variety of formats. One of its newest offerings are DVD “Binge Boxes,” collections of popular movies based around a theme. Patrons can receive weekly emails of new library materials by signing up for the Wowbrary newsletter at wowbrary.org/signup.aspx.

The city of Apache Junction invites and welcomes people of all disabilities to use its programs, sites and facilities. Any questions about library services for people with disabilities can be answered by the library ADA coordinator at 480-474-8555, TTY 711, or ada@ajpl.org. Additional information can be found at apachejunctionaz.gov/791/ADA-Accessibility-and-Civil-Rights.
