Apache Junction council to discuss bids received for drainage improvements

Posted

A bid for Prospector Park drainage improvements will be discussed at Monday’s Apache Junction City Council work session.

The council meets at 7 p.m. Feb. 3 in the council chambers, 300 E. Superstition Blvd.

Seven bids received for planned Prospector Park drainage channel improvements were rejected late last year because they were above the city of Apache Junction’s budget for the work. The Apache Junction City Council voted unanimously Dec. 17 to reject proposals received for work at the park, 3015 N. Idaho Road.

On Dec. 30 the city reissued a request for bids for drainage improvements at Prospector Park and on Jan. 15 the city received four responses, Parks and Recreation Director Liz Langenbach said in a memo to the council.

“Because Primary Construction Inc. was the lowest, responsive bidder, staff recommend awarding contract for the base bid amount listed above plus 5% contingency for a total of $359,952.73,” she said in the memo. “The budget for this project was $300,000; however, the department has other savings to accommodate the increase for this critical project.”
