A public comment period ends Friday, March 27, for the preliminary decision to issue a significant amendment to an aquifer protection permit for Superstition Mountains Community Facilities District No. 1's wastewater treatment plant in Apache Junction. The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality comment period began Feb. 26.

SMCFD is authorized to operate a sewer-treatment plant at 5661 S. Ironwood Drive with a maximum average monthly flow of 3.0 million gallons per day. It is to be re-rated from 2.1 mgd to 3.0 mgd in three phases. Phase 2 work will bring it to 2.6 mgd and phase 3 will have it at 3.0 mgd, according to documents at ADEQ's website.
