In Loving Memory of
Doris Louise Boneham Engle, beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, peacefully passed away in her sleep on Thursday, April 18, 2024, at The Colonnade Assisted Living in Surprise, AZ. She was 92 years old.
Born on October 1, 1931, in Louisville, Kentucky, Doris was the cherished daughter of Wilma and Walter Boneham. She spent her formative years in Tiffin, Ohio, and graduated from Columbian High School. In the journey of life, she married Glen B Engle, with whom she raised their three children, Jeff, Monica, and Jay Michael, in Poway, California.
Doris was the epitome of resilience and strength, facing life’s challenges with grace and determination. A two-time cancer survivor, she defied the odds and became renowned as Dr. Sugarbaker’s longest-surviving patient after participating in a groundbreaking clinical trial. Her bravery and optimism inspired all who knew her.
Her warmth, kindness, and welcoming spirit endeared her to family and friends alike. Doris will forever be remembered for her unwavering love and devotion as a mother and wife.
Doris is survived by her older sister, Betty Miller; sons Jeff Engle and Jay Michael Engle; nieces Linda Brock and Sherry Fortner; daughters-in-law Martha Engle and Cheryl Selby; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen, and daughter, Monica.
A Celebration of Life in honor of Doris is being planned for May or June at The Colonnade. Further details will be announced in due course. In lieu of flowers, Doris has requested donations to be made to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest WA (Swwabigs.org).
Doris will be laid to rest alongside her husband, Glen, and daughter, Monica, at Dearborn Memorial Park in Poway, CA, on October 12, 2024.
Doris’s legacy of love, strength, and courage will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. May she rest in eternal peace. Please join the family in sharing memories, pictures or videos of Doris on her tribute wall at www.caminodelsol.com.
