Phoenix police arrest teen as suspect in West Valley shooting death

A teen was arrested Wednesday and booked on a first-degree murder charge in the February death of a man in the West Valley.

Richard Salazar, 19, also faces an armed robbery charge, Phoenix police stated in a release.

Officers responded about 12:50 p.m. Feb. 29 to the 6700 block of West Filmore Street where a multi-vehicle collision occurred. One vehicle was on fire, according to an earlier release.

Firefighters put out the fire and found the driver, David Juarez, 19, dead.  A passenger was taken to a hospital where he was treated for a non-fatal injury.

Police said they received other calls connecting the vehicle to a shooting near 61st Avenue and Filmore Street.

“Evidence of a shooting was discovered at a home in the area. The home was searched, and no additional victim(s) or suspect(s) were discovered,” the earlier release stated.
