Phoenix police arrest suspect in fatal hit-and-run involving motorized scooter

Posted

A 28-year-old woman has been arrested as the suspect in a collision Thursday that killed a man who was riding a motorized scooter along Thunderbird Road in Phoenix, police said.

The collision occurred just before 11 p.m. April 25 near 30th Avenue and Thunderbird Road. Police found William Sears, 43, with critical injuries. Emergency assistance was provided, but he died at the scene.

Detectives said preliminary information indicates Sears was riding the scooter west along Thunderbird Road when he was struck by a car. The driver fled the scene before 911 was called, police said.

“Detectives worked throughout the night and identified 28-year-old Ilisia Lujan as the at-fault driver,” a Phoenix Police Department release stated. She was booked into jail.
