Teens in Peoria ages 16 to 19 are invited to learn what it takes to become a firefighter.
Peoria Fire-Medical Department is offering a summer youth academy June 10-13.
The event is free to attend.
Each participant will be assigned a personal set of firefighting gear for use during the academy.
Topics in the class include leadership skills, search and rescue, hose stream management, team building, engine company operations, vehicle extraction, rappelling, ladder operations, physical training, communications, use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and more.
