Black History Month celebration takes place in Queen Creek

The Black Heritage Connection is hosting a Black History Month celebration in Queen Creek today.

The celebration runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Desert Mountain Park, 22201 Hawes Road.

Queen Creek Mayor Julia Wheatley and council members Robin Benning and Jeff Brown are expected to attend.

Queen Creek police officers will take part in the event again this year. It’s part of the department’s efforts to “build strong connections in our community,” according to a posting on the Queen Creek Police Department’s Facebook page.

The celebration will feature food trucks, vendors, dance instructions, live music and spoken word performances, and a children's zone for the little ones.

At its Wednesday, Feb. 7 meeting, the Queen Creek Town Council will be proclaiming February as Black History Month.
