I would like to express my thanks to the many Sun City residents who attended the Palo Verde Artists show and sale recently at Sundial Recreation Center.
The show was well-received and many positive comments were overheard, particularly surprise at the amount of talent showcased by our club’s artists. Much hard work went into the planning and execution of the show, which was led by Loretta Hostettler and Peggy Juneau, with help from many club members who donated their time and talents to make sure the show was a success. The Independent was also an integral part of our success by helping us publicize the event, not only in Sun City, but throughout the surrounding areas.
Palo Verde Artists is a wonderful place to explore creativity in a stimulating, non-judgmental space. If you have ever thought you might like to try your hand at something artistic, but have told yourself you don’t have talent or that you can’t compete with all of those experienced artists, let me try to convince you otherwise.
Many of the artists who participated in this show are beginners who thought drawing or painting or playing with alcohol ink just sounded like fun and decided to give it a try. They probably decided to sign up for a beginning class and found a teacher who just loves to teach beginners who have had no experience at all. Some of those beginners got brave enough to put one of their drawings or paintings in the art show and some of those won prizes. But even if they didn’t win a prize, they had the satisfaction of trying something out of their comfort zone and sharing it.
Give it a try if it’s something you think you’d enjoy. You don’t ever have to compete for prizes if you don’t want to. I am speaking from experience when I promise you that you will feel a sense of accomplishment and begin to see the world in new and different ways. Palo Verde Artists offers classes in drawing and painting in different media. Our teachers love to teach and they are very experienced teaching all levels. And you do not need to spend a lot of money buying expensive equipment or supplies. You can take a drawing class with a graphite pencil, an eraser, and a pad of drawing paper. How cool is that? Plus it’s extremely portable.
If you decide you want to branch out later, you might try another medium. It might even become a passion or at least a way to relax and learn something new.
