Traffic delays start Feb. 4 in downtown Tempe

Posted

The downtown Tempe community should be prepared for traffic delays starting next week due to a utility project.

This restriction on University Drive from Myrtle Avenue to Novus Place begins on Tuesday, Feb. 4, and is expected to be in place through mid-August, a city release explained.

University Drive will be reduced to one lane in both directions, with traffic beginning to merge at Rural Road for westbound traffic and Mill Avenue for eastbound traffic.

At the intersection of University Drive and Veterans Way and McAllister Drive, northbound, eastbound, and westbound left turn movements will not be permitted. Residents should use Rio Salado Parkway or Apache Boulevard as alternate routes for through traffic, according to the release.

There are no transit detours in place for this restriction. Buses traveling in downtown Tempe may experience delays due to traffic.
