People interested in expressing their opinion about the professional hockey-centered development early during the June 2 special Tempe City Council meeting should submit their comment  cards as soon as possible, city officals stated in a release.

Speakers  will be taken in the order in which their cards are received, the release stated.

For those appearing virtually, cards must be submitted by noon June 2. Those appearing in person may either fill out the electronic card ahead of time or do so when arriving at the meeting "with the understanding that they will appear after those who submited cards in advance," according to the release.

The Tempe City Council will consider whether a proposal to build a professional hockey arena, hotels, offices, retail and residential on city land should proceed to a formal negotiation phase.

The proposal was submitted by the Meruelo Group and the  Arizona Coyotes through its affiliate, Bluebird Developement, LLC.

The special council session will begin 2 p.m. , Thursday, June 2 in the Tempe City Council Chambers, 31 E. Fifth St.,  garden level.
