Tempe plans changes to Rolling Hills Golf Course

Posted

Improvements could be coming to Tempe’s Rolling Hills Golf Course, and the city is seeking input from the community on the proposed plan.

Tempe will be conducting an outreach plan to gather input from residents and golfers to ensure the Rolling Hills course reflects what they would like to see.

Two open houses – one virtual and one in-person – will allow community members to view a presentation from Grass Clippings, ask questions and submit feedback.

The in-person meeting will be 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 13, at the Tempe History Museum,  809 E. Southern Ave. A recording of the virtual meeting held July 7 will be available next week.

An online survey is open through  Sunday, July 31 for residents and golfers to read about the proposal and provide feedback.

The proposed design includes a new golf course designed by Jackson Kahn Design, lighted facilities for nighttime use, a community gathering place, family activity lawn and Baja-inspired food and beverage operations.

The site plan reduces the turf area by 35 percent and reduces the golf footprint by 15 acres, jointly focusing on sustainable use of water and opening up other recreational possibilities.

Grass Clippings will continue to meet with community groups and stakeholders, such as the city’s boards and commissions, golf associations, local schools and others to present the proposal and collect input.

Feedback from the public involvement process will be evaluated in August.

Next steps could include additional discussions with Grass Clippings and potentially a draft development agreement for city council’s consideration at a future meeting.
