Funeral services for Tempe Fire Medical Rescue Fire Captain Scott Leatham will take place on Friday, Jan. 3.

First responders from throughout Maricopa County and beyond are expected to attend, a city release explained.

Leatham, age 39, passed away on Dec. 19 following a battle with cancer. His cancer has been determined to be related to his work, according to the release. Leatham is survived by his wife Ashley, son Kaden, age 15, and Kali, age 12.

He began his career with the department in 2013. In 2015, Leatham became certified as a paramedic; in 2019, he became certified as a technical rescue technician; in 2020, became a member of the Medical Support Unit as a SWAT medic, and in 2022 was promoted to the position of captain paramedic.

Services will take place Friday, Jan. 3, at 10:30 a.m., at Mission Community Church, 4450 E. Elliot Road, in Gilbert. There will be a cordon with honor guard, the release noted.

The funeral procession will travel from Mission Community Church in Gilbert to Valley of the Sun Mortuary and Cemetery, 10940 E. Chandler Heights Road, Chandler.

To facilitate a safe and orderly flow of traffic and accommodate a high volume of emergency vehicles, there will be rolling closures and some lane restrictions, the release stated.

After the church service, at approximately 12:30 p.m., emergency vehicles from all non-Tempe departments will leave the church and proceed to the cemetery.
