Tempe FanCon returns Jan. 25

Tempe FanCon returns on Saturday, Jan. 25, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., bringing exciting action hero sightings, fun games and activities, artist and author displays and much more.

Now in its 10th year, Tempe FanCon brings together fans from across the Valley for a celebration of all things cosplay, comics and pop culture, a city release explained. Fans can enjoy an all ages event jam-packed with excitement, including costume contests, photo opportunities and nearly 100 vendors.

Here's what to expect:

  • Artist and author displays
  • Cosplay-themed shopping experiences
  • A costume contest for all ages with fantastic prizes
  • Activities for all ages:
  • Game room
  • Scavenger hunt
  • Art booths
  • Photo booth
  • Inflatable games
  • Photo opportunities with local cosplayers
  • Delicious food from local food trucks.

Comics and graphic novels can encourage literacy and boost reading skills in many ways, and that’s why Tempe Public Library's librarians love reading of any kind, the release detailed.

Images provide the context necessary to help build vocabulary for ESL and reluctant readers; the slow pace of analyzing images and pausing in between panels encourages time to reflect and builds reading comprehension; and colorful graphics and exciting story lines can captivate the attention span and interest of all ages.
