Tempe diverts over 60K pounds of waste from landfill

Posted

Tempe’s July Zero Waste Day on July 27 recorded another success for the city’s efforts in reducing waste being sent to landfills.

The city’s free, drive-thru event on July 27 saw 637 residents and collected 60,538 pounds of waste to be recycled, reused, repurposed or disposed of responsibly — this is a 46.49% increase from the weight collected at the July 2023 event, according to a city release.

Among the items collected were 8,639 pounds of old electronic equipment and 13,220 pounds of paper for shredding. Community members also brought 850 pounds of pet supply donations and 500 pounds of donated building materials.

“Tempe thanks those who came to support this local event and appreciates its partners for braving the heat in order to provide this sustainable option to our community,” the release stated.

The next Zero Waste Day event is set for Saturday, Nov. 2. For more, click here.
