The Tempe Diablos announced their annual Excellence in Education ceremony, sponsored by McCarthy, returns this year as an in-person event after two years of virtual ceremonies.
Held at the Tempe Center for the Arts on May 3, the event honors and recognizes outstanding educators serving the Tempe community including teachers, leaders and administrators. During the event, the 2022 Tempe Diablos Scholars who will receive scholarships to either Arizona State University or Maricopa Community Colleges will also be announced.
A variety of awards will be announced including Teacher of the Year, High Impact, Class Act, Inspiration, Leadership, Rising Star and Lifetime Achievement. The event is referred to as ‘The Academy Awards of Education’ thanks to the red carpet entry, the black-tie fashion and the caliber of the awards given.
“The Excellence in Education event is the only one of its kind in the valley,” says David Formisano, event chair and Tempe Diablo. “It’s a spectacular night honoring outstanding educators serving the Tempe community. It’s quite literally the Diablos’ mission in action.”
For more than 30 years, the Tempe Diablos have honored educators and students who have demonstrated excellence in the classroom and beyond.
Since 2010, these programs have culminated every spring with the highly anticipated black-tie awards banquet hosted by celebrity emcees with guests including school district leadership, community leaders and local businesses. During the event, the Diablos will award 30 scholarships to Arizona State University or one of the Maricopa Community Colleges to Tempe students who demonstrate leadership inside and outside of the classroom.
The Excellence in Education awards ceremony will also be livestreamed via tempediablos.org.
Districts honored include Tempe Elementary, Kyrene and Tempe Union.
Doors will open at 5 p.m. and the awards ceremony will start at 7 p.m.
