The Tempe City Council will be updated on the Tempe Center for the Arts, a public arts plan and the city’s ambulance transportation program at a May 8 work session.
It begins at 3:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers, 31 E. Fifth St. Council meetings can be watched in real time via Cox Cable Channel 11 and at www.tempe.gov/tempe11.
Concerning the Tempe Center for the Arts, staff will seek City Council consensus to proceed with rental rate adjustments at an upcoming regular council meeting, ensuring TCA’s long-term financial stability while preserving access for community arts organizations, commercial customers and civic organizations, it states in a memo to the council from Brenda Abney, community services deputy director for arts and culture; Dominic D’Andrea, TCA manager for programming; and Meribeth Reeves, TCA manager for business and operations.
Staff is not seeking direction at this time but is providing information and answering questions about the findings from its community outreach process and next steps in drafting and completing the public arts plan, according to a memo to the council from Deputy Community Services Director Brenda Abney and Community Services Manager Rebecca Blume Rothman.
The city of Tempe was awarded its certificate of necessity for ambulance service through Arizona Department of Health Services in 2016, began service with two ambulances in 2017, and added two units in 2019 and two more in 2022, according to a city document.
