SRP offers EV charging station incentives to homebuilders
Posted
Buyers in the market for a new home could soon have the components to charge an electric or hybrid car.
On Thursday, Salt River Project announced a new program that offers incentives for homebuilders who prewire Phoenix area home communities for electric vehicle charging needs.
The SRP Energy Star Homes Program offers builders $300 for each home wired for electric vehicle charging. SRP officials said the incentive could be inticing to builders since it cuts the total installation costs for vehicle charging ports in half.
Builders are expected to get marketing support to advertise these communities to potential buyers.
“Pre-wiring homes for EV charging capabilities adds value for all individuals involved,” said Rebecca Smout, SRP Program Manager. “This includes homebuilders who will soon be required to install this wiring, and homeowners who now have the option to charge EV’s without putting in expensive infrastructure themselves. Homeowners will also see increased resale values as EV charging will soon be an expectation of homebuyers in the Valley area moving forward.”
The pre-wired homes could have smart charging capibility such as Amazon Alexa-enabled charging.
