Sonoran University of Health Sciences has launched the national search for its next president in preparation for the departure of Dr. Paul Mittman, who will be retiring in June 2025 after 25 years as president and CEO of the institution.
The new president is expected to begin their tenure in July 2025, a press release explained.
Sonoran University’s Board of Trustees has engaged with Academic Search to support the nationwide search for candidates. The board has also selected a Presidential Search Committee comprised of trustees, faculty, staff and student representatives to support the process.
Inquiries, nominations and applications are invited, according to the release.
“We are seeking a strategic, experienced and visionary leader who will embrace the opportunity to elevate Sonoran University to its next level of accomplishment and build upon Dr. Mittman’s remarkable work,” Sonoran Trustee and Search Committee chair Dr. Duane Roen stated in the release.
Roen added that the individual will be expected to carry out day-to-day operations, build on efforts to further elevate the institution and its professions, strengthen the success of students and alumni in service of the broader community, and enhance its long-term financial health.
Since its founding in 1992, Sonoran University has blended new ways of learning and teaching with principles of naturopathic and conventional medicine and healthcare. Today the university, situated on 8.5 acres in Tempe, offers multiple accredited degree programs.
Additionally, Sonoran offers a variety of other services that extend opportunities for student learning and research and provide free healthcare delivery and access in under-resourced communities, the release added.
Developed from feedback from surveys and focus groups, the Presidential Position Profile identifies the skills and attributes the University is seeking in its new president.
