In honor of Melanoma Awareness Month, the Tempe location of Skin Care Specialists is hosting a free skin check event on Monday, May 5, from noon to 4 p.m., with two board-certified dermatologists, Dr. Heather Hensley and Dr. Jennifer Peterson, available to provide the screenings.

This event is part of an ongoing effort to raise awareness about the importance of early detection of melanoma, one of the most serious forms of skin cancer, a media release explained.  

“We believe this is a critical opportunity for the community to receive professional skin checks at no cost, especially those who may not have easy access to dermatologic care,” the release stated.

Walk-ins are welcome for this free event, but calling ahead at 480-830-8333 to schedule an appointment is encouraged to guarantee a spot.

The event is open to all ages and individuals, and it is specifically designed to make sure everyone has access to the care they need, whether or not they have insurance or are concerned about high copays.

This event is especially beneficial for people who already have a dermatologist, as it provides a fresh set of eyes to spot potential issues, the release noted. Additionally, for those without insurance or who face high copays, this is an excellent opportunity to see if a spot of concern requires further attention.
