Rescue workers are searching Tempe Town Lake this morning for a person who jumped into the water Sunday night and never resurfaced.

Police responded to a call about 11:50 p.m. May 14 at the Mill Avenue Bridge along with the Fire and Medical Rescue Department.

The caller said a man had jumped into the lake. Rescue workers removed the man from the water, and he told authorities his friend had been in the water as well but did not resurface.

Police said this morning the man is in stable condition and speaking with officers. The search for the other  person continued.

“Investigators are still working to determine how and why these two entered the water,” police said in a statement.

They added that there are no traffic restrictions in the area Monday morning.
