National group honors Tempe for diversity, inclusion

The National League of Cities has recognized a Tempe program as a leader for diversity, equity and inclusion.
Hometown for All, launched in 2021, is designed “to accelerate the growth of affordable and workforce housing to expand housing opportunities in Tempe,” according to a release.
The award was given to the city during NLC’s Cultural Diversity Awards program.
Tempe was selected from among more than 50 communities across the country.
"We are honored to receive this special recognition from the National League of Cities," Mayor Corey Woods said.
“We know that housing is a building block for equity and inclusion. We have been a leader in creating diverse opportunities through projects for seniors, veterans, people of all abilities, first-time homeowners and low- to moderate-income families. Hometown for All continues to move our city forward.”
Through Hometown for All, an amount equivalent to 50% of certain permitting fees that come into the city from all new development projects support the nonprofit Tempe Coalition for Affordable Housing.
Those funds are used to purchase properties and land and “reimagine city-owned parcels for future development," the release stated.
