The Maricopa County Community College District Interim Chancellor Dr. Steven R. Gonzales and Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego will join other community leaders to honor Dr. Sian Proctor, a professor at South Mountain Community College who recently served as the pilot for Inspiration4, the first all-civilian mission to space.
As one of just a few Black women to visit space, Proctor is being celebrated for her great successes among family, friends, and community leaders. Students and faculty members who were finalists in the Space2Inspire art and poetry competition spearheaded by Proctor will also be in attendance to ceremoniously return their work displayed on her space travel.
Gallego will also present Proctor with a proclamation to recognize her accomplishments.
The ceremony will take place at the South Mountain Community College Library, located at 7050 S. 24th Street in Phoenix, on April 25 from 9 to 10:30 a.m.
