Vitalant, along with CW7 Arizona, KTAR News 92.3 FM and 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station, is hosting the Saving Arizona Blood Drive on Jan. 5 to replenish its blood supply following the lowest 10 days of donations.
A press release explained that Christmas through New Year’s Day are the lowest 10 days of the year for blood donations, but patients require more transfusions in January than during any other month of the year.
Vitalant invites the community to give blood at Arizona’s largest blood drive on Sunday, Jan. 5, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Tempe Center for the Arts, 700 W. Rio Salado Pkwy.
In appreciation for giving blood, all Saving Arizona donors will be thanked with a voucher for a Streets of New York 10” cheese pizza and a voucher for a specific-day admission to the 2025 WM Phoenix Open, courtesy of the event sponsors, according to the release.
Donors of blood types are urgently needed, especially Type O, the universal blood that can be substituted for other types in emergencies. Appointments are recommended and can be made at vitalant.org/SaveAZ or 877-258-4825.
“The winter holiday season reduces the number of people giving blood, but heavy traffic on the roads and highways increases the potential for accidents and the need for blood,” Vice President for Vitalant’s Southwest Division Sid Lewis said in the release.
