Tempe History Museum's featured exhibit, "Extending a Hand: César Chávez an Arizona Connection," which explores the direct connection between Cesar Chavez, Tempe and the state of Arizona, closes Oct. 6.

Although the exhibit is coming to an end, there are upcoming events that highlight the exhibit's content, according to a city release. Admission to the exhibit and events are free.

Upcoming events are:

• Friday, Sept. 27, 7 p.m. - Performances at the Museum: Victor Caldee and His Cuban Connection
• Tuesday, Oct. 1, 6:30 p.m. - Documenting Community: The Photojournalism of Jose Muñoz 

Museum hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free.

In addition to the featured exhibit, "Corazón del Campo" will also be on display in the museum's Community Room.

This special art exhibition exemplifies the struggles and the honor that has been placed on César Chávez's work and history, the release explained.. Artists' work will represent an Arizona and a Valley connection to Chávez's work and the farmworker movement. 

The gallery features artists that have been inspired or have learned of what Chávez or the farm labor movement did but have never not met César Chávez directly. These artists were introduced to Chávez through readings, school or family, according to the release.

Exhibiting artists include Jose Muñoz, Francisco Garcia, Javier Valenzuela, and Alondra Jazmin Barajas Saucedo.
