AIDS Walk Arizona set for February in Tempe

Posted

The largest gathering in Arizona to support people living with HIV and raise awareness about the disease is coming to Tempe in February, according to a news release from Aunt Rita’s Foundation.

The AIDS Walk Arizona and 5K Fun Run will take over Tempe Beach Park, 80 W. Rio Salado Parkway, on Feb. 19.

The AIDS Walk registration tent, presented by Gilead, and the vendor village will open at 1 p.m. The walk and run will start at 3 p.m. Registration forms can be found online at www.aidswalkaz.org.

Regina Gazelle Wells, a trans activist and advocate for trans people impacted by homelessness, substance abuse and HIV, is an event co-chair. She is joined by Elijah Palles, Mr. Trans USA 2020 whose drag name is Eddie Broadway.

As of now, the walk has raised about $130,000 toward its goal of $200,000. All proceeds benefit Aunt Rita’s Foundation’s 14 community partner agencies that provide critical HIV services. That includes testing, treatment, behavioral health, housing and more.

Registration fees are $20 for students, $35 for individual walkers, $35 for virtual walkers and $45 for runners. Fees will include an AIDS Walk shirt and swag from event sponsors.

Separately, registration for PAWS for the Cause, for walkers bringing their dogs, is $10 and includes a PAWS for the Cause bandana. KIDS for the Cause (children 12 and under) can participate for free, but registration is required and they must be accompanied by an adult. Registration includes an AIDS Walk shirt and Kids for the Cause swag from the AIDS Walk vendor village.

Participants interested in creating a team or individuals interested in supporting a fundraiser or a participating team, can find details, instructions and information on the website.
