AASK is here to help families caring for family

Posted 9/5/22

Many times, when a child is removed from their home and placed in the foster care system, the best place for them to stay is with another family member such as a grandparent, Aunt, Uncle, or older sibling. That way, these children can maintain existing relationships while they begin the healing process.

AASK is here to help families caring for family

Many times, when a child is removed from their home and placed in the foster care system, the best place for them to stay is with another family member such as a grandparent, Aunt, Uncle, or older sibling. That way, these children can maintain existing relationships while they begin the healing process.

While this is what is best for the child, often the family members that care for relative children do not have ample time to prepare, leaving them feeling overwhelmed and alone. That’s where AASK comes in.

AASK’s dedicated team of specialists are not only a shoulder to lean on when times get tough, but they are there to help families navigate the paperwork and court dates that come with working with the foster care system, but help families find free or low cost activities for the families to participate in, and resources such as beds, toys, clothes, and more.  AASK also helps these families gain their foster care license giving them access to the same financial support other foster families receive.

With AASK’s help, families are able to help the children in their care feel safe and comfortable and begin a happier, healthier life.

If you or someone you know are caring for a relative’s child, visit aask-az.org/kinship for more information and to get connected today.
