“The Neverending Story” is receiving a Surprise adaption at the Actors PLAYground theater this month.
Youth actors are performing the classic adventure from Thursday, April 24 to Sunday, April 27 at its new theater at 11340 W. Bell Road, Suite 105. Evening performances at 7 p.m. are set for April 24 to 26, while two 2 p.m. matinees are scheduled for April 26 and 27.
Told with all the thrills of a classic, the story begins with Bastian, a lonely boy who stumbles into a bookshop where he discovers a curious book — “The Neverending Story.”
Bastian hides in the attic of his school and begins to read, and a huge adventure surges into life. Fantastica, a land of stories, is being destroyed by the Nothing.
The Childlike Empress has chosen Atreyu, a young hunter, to be the Hero of the Great Quest. Atreyu, an orphan, is an unlikely choice, but he accepts, and with his horse and companion, Artax, rides to face the menace.
On his journey he encounters Ygramul the Many, the werewolf Gmork and befriends Falkor the luck Dragon. He ventures to the Swamps of Sadness and solves the riddles of the three magic gates to meet Uyulala.
Told with all the thrills of a classic adventure, “The Neverending Story” is a gripping adventure, full of weird and wondrous creatures that will enthrall audience members.
Amber Ryan is directing the play.
Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children. VIP sofas are also available.
