The West Valley Chorale, directed by Ken Goodenberger, with Christine Kyhn, principal accompanist, orchestra and soloists commenced its 38th performance season entertaining more than 600 patrons at two concerts Dec. 7 at American Lutheran Church in Sun City and Dec. 10 at Shepherd of the Hills United Methodist Church in Sun City West.

The major performance was of the Beethoven Mass in C Major, celebrating Beethoven’s 251st birthday with other season music. Iris Johnson, president of the chorale noted it was an honor to end 2021 with this delayed performance meant to be performed on his 250th birthday last year due to Covid.

“And to say that we ae excited to perform beautiful music for you again is not sufficiently expressing our emotions,” she stated.

Preparation for April concerts of Mendelssohn’s Elijah begins Jan. 3, 2022. Performances will be April 5 and 7. Auditions, by reservation, for new singers will be noon-2 p.m. Jan. 3 at Shepherd of the Hills United Methodist Church, 13658 W. Meeker Blvd. RSVP at WestValleyChoraleAZ.org.

Rehearsals for the chorale are 2:45-5 p.m. every Monday. leading up to the concerts.
