Northwest Valley Connect drivers are a powerful force for good in Northwest Valley communities, according to agency officials.
“But we can’t achieve the ride delivery records of the past without more drivers,” said Gail Christianer, Northwest Valley Connect volunteer coordinator.
The 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in 2019 managed to deliver more than 17,000 rides to seniors 65 and older, those with disabilities and veterans in the Nothwest Valley.
“But we had 5-10 more volunteer drivers in 2019, depending on the season,” Christianer explained.
Northwest Valley Connect prioritizes medical appointments, but agency officials also have the goal of assisting seniors to age in place. That means helping people get to the grocery store and the bank as well as their medical appointments.
“We particularly need those transit heroes who will volunteer to drive the wheelchair assist vehicles — no CDL required,” Christainer said.
Residents are asked to considering giving 4-8 hours per week to help the woman who can no longer drive get to the store or her doctor.
Residents interested in volunteering as drivers are encouraged to call Christianer at 623-282-9300 or email gchristianer@northwestvalleyconnect.org.
