Tennis tourney season starts in Surprise

Posted

Tennis season has officially arrived as the Surprise Tennis and Racquet Complex prepares to welcome approximately 3,000 players, competing in several United States Tennis Association League National Championships this fall.

Events will take place at the Surprise Tennis and Racquet Complex, 14469 W. Paradise Lane.

It starts with the USTA Southwest Sectional 18 & Over and 40 & Over Mixed Doubles Championship Sept. 23–25.

This co-ed championship is one of the USTA Southwest’s most popular local leagues with representation from Northern Arizona, Northern New Mexico, Southern Arizona, Phoenix (formerly Central Arizona), Greater El Paso and Southern New Mexico.

As one of the top championship events on the calendar each year, nearly 500 players from across all parts of the section will duel it out for the Section championship crown in both 18 & Over and 40 & Over mixed divisions.

Winners will earn an automatic bid to the USTA League National championship event held later in fall and move on as the Southwest representative.

Several USTA League National Championships will follow in this order:
• Sept. 30-Oct. 2 Division: Adult 18 & Over 3.5
• Oct. 7-9 Division: Adult 18 & Over 4.5
• Oct. 14-16 Division: Adult 18 & Over 4.0
• Oct. 21-23 Division: Adult 40 & Over 3.0
• Oct. 28-30 Division: Mixed 18 & Over 6.0, 8.0 & 10.0
• Nov. 4-6 Division: Mixed 18 & Over 7.0/9.0
• Nov. 11-13 Division: Mixed 40 & Over 7.0/8.0

With more than 320,000 tennis players taking part each year, USTA League is the country’s largest adult competitive tennis league. Top teams from local leagues play to earn the chance to compete in district and/or sectional championships, with the winners of sectionals advancing to USTA League National Championships.

Fans can take advantage of free admission. For a complete list of events and match schedules, visit the USTA League National Championships tournament page.

Open court availability may be limited or not available due to tournaments and other special events. For information on open court availability and tennis programs, contact the complex at 623-222-2400.
