The annual Surprise Fiesta Grande street party is happening this week online only.

City officials have moved the seventh annual event online from Monday, Oct. 5 through Friday, Oct. 9.

Now dubbed “Surprise Fiesta Grande — To Go,” the city’s Parks and Recreation Department has teamed up with 101.9 FM Radio La Campesina to co-sponsor the event.

According to the city, virtual attendees will still be able to enjoy authentic Mexican food, cooking and dance classes, crafts and games.

It kicks off the first night Oct. 5 with a virtual cooking class for “holy guacamole and salsa dippin.’” The virtual class is at 6:30 p.m.

The lineup Oct. 6 is titled “Let’s Taco ‘bout a Good Meal.” It will include local restaurant discounts all day and a ballet folklorico class and performance at 6:30 p.m.

On Oct. 7, “Nacho Average Virtual Bingo” will be held online from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Participants can register at surpriserec.surpriseaz.gov by clicking on “Special Events” by noon that day for a chance to win prizes.

The Oct. 8 events feature virtual arts and crafts from WHAM. The presentation will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Participants can pick up a craft kit at the Parks and Recreation office from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 5 through 8. They will be first-come, first-served.

The final day, Oct. 9, is “Fiesta Food Truck Friday” and “Swag Bag Pick-up.”

The Villanueva Recreation Center, 15660 N. Hollyhock St., will be selling food from Puffy Taco Shack from 5 to 8 p.m.

To register for a swag bag, log on to surpriserec.surpriseaz.gov and click “Special Events.”

All of the virtual events will be at facebook.com/SurpriseRec or Surpriseaz.gov/SurpriseTV.

Videos from the week will also be available at surpriseaz.gov/fiestagrande.
