Caleb Thomas Smith, a 2019 Surprise high school homeschool graduate, completed basic training in the United States Navy.

Prior to basic training, Mr. Smith tested and qualified to study and be a part of the U.S. nuclear naval program and is now stationed at the Naval Nuclear Power Training Command in Goose Creek, South Carolina.

During his school years at home, he was involved in many activities including baseball, Taekwondo (later becoming an instructor), and playing the banjo. He was engaged in the youth program of St. Clare of Assisi Roman Catholic parish, 17111 W. Bell Road, Surprise, having volunteered for charitable events through the church.

Mr. Smith also enjoyed spending time with his four brothers and four sisters, and has several relatives that have served in the armed forces dating back to World War I.
