The city of Surprise released its official call for  City Council elections next year.

The primary election is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2022, with the general election set for Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2022.

Three City Council seats are up for grabs — Districts 1, 5 and 6. Those seats are currently held by Roland Winters, Jack Hastings and Chris Judd, respectively.

So far, only Hastings has officially announced his candidacy for reelection. He is currently serving a two-year term after winning a special election in the August 2020 primary.

The 2022 election will be for four-year terms ending in December 2026.

Candidate packets with petitions are available now at the City Clerk’s Office at City Hall, 16000 N. Civic Center Plaza. All candidates are required to fill out and sign a statement of interest before petitions can be circulated.

A nomination paper, financial disclosure statements, affidavit of qualifications and petitions are due at the City Clerk’s Office between Monday, March 7, 2022 and 5 p.m. Monday, April 4.

The deadline for voters to register is July 5, 2022.

Call the City Clerk’s Office at 623-222-1220.
