Surprise's Human Service and Community Vitality Department is looking for volunteers for upcoming Day of Service events in the city.

  •  Wednesday, Sept. 13 at St. Mary’s Food Bank, 13050 W. Elm St. Shifts begin at 7:30 a.m., 9:45 a.m. or noon. Volunteers will assist with sorting bulk food items, creating food baskets and loading food into vehicles, helping in the process of providing food for families in need.
  • From 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 14 is the annual Community Cleanup Event. Volunteers will participate in various projects throughout the city including landscaping, painting, trimming of shrubs, debris removal and more. Neighborhood revitalization assists homeowners who may not be physically or financially able to maintain their homes as required by local codes. Those who volunteer will meet at 8 a.m. at the Surprise Senior Center, 15832 N Hollyhock St.

Individuals and groups can register with Larry Garcia at Larry.Garcia@surpriseaz.gov or 623-222-1522. Groups need to submit a group name and estimated number of volunteers - limited to no more than 10 people.

Keep an eye on Day of Service events and get information at surpriseaz.gov/dayofservice.
