The Rotary Club of Surprise is hosting a fundraising Shred-A-Thon from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17.

This event will take place in the parking lot of the Arizona Charter Academy at 16011 N. Dysart Road. The event is located conveniently just south of Grand Avenue on Dysart.

All possible COVID-19 precautions will be practiced including use of masks, face shields, gloves, wipes and hand sanitizers. All volunteers will practice “safety first" procedures to protect our club members and the general public. Drivers will be requested not to leave their vehicles.

The money raised at the event will be used to support both students and seniors in our community. The proceeds will support programs for the student members of the Rotary Club of Surprise Interact Club at Arizona Charter Academy. Also, senior members of AARP Historic Chapter #1 will benefit from the fundraising efforts as well as the Rotary Club of Surprise Community Foundation which has been voted the “Best

Charitable Organization of the Year by the Surprise Chamber of Commerce. If you have any questions, call 623-734-5438.

During the Shred-A-Thon, there will be 2 trucks on site both generously donated by AARP Arizona as well as large collection bins to accept electronics to be recycled. These items include amplifiers and audio equipment, cables and connections, cameras, Computer equipment, tablets and accessories, VCRs, DVDs and blu-ray players, DVRs - DIRECT TV, TiVo, LCD Flat Screen TVs and Monitors (No CRT TVs will be accepted), phones, satellite receivers, speakers and microphones, video cameras and video gaming equipment.

“Shredding sensitive documents, such as old financial statements and bills, is one of the best precautions people can take against identity theft” said Jay Lickus, past president of the Rotary Club of Surprise. “We are so happy to provide this service to our community.”
