Surprise Rotary plots 1st golf ball drop

Fundraiser to benefit YMCA scholarships

The Rotary Club of Surprise is hosting its very first golf ball drop fundraiser to support working families of Surprise and El Mirage through childcare scholarships to the Northwest Valley YMCA.

The event with take place at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 22 in Gateway Park, 10100 N. El Mirage Road, El Mirage. The event will also be posted on Facebook Live on the Rotary Club of Surprise page.

More than 200 numbered balls will be dropped from an extended boom lift over a large circular “green” with the cup in the center.

The first and second closest balls to the pin and the ball furthest from the pin win cash prizes. First place is $1,000, second place is $300 and the ball resting farthest from the pin will win $100.

The general public is invited to purchase tickets online by midnight May 20 on the Rotary Club of Surprise website: rotaryclubofsurprise.com.

Tickets can also be purchased in person at Moore Graphics, 11200 W. Wisconsin Ave., Unit 6, Youngtown, or at the YMCA facility located at 12450 W. Cinnabar Ave, El Mirage or at the Edward Jones Office/Brian Laurie, 13856 W. Waddell Road, Suite No. 105.

Tickets for one numbered ball are only $20 each or buy a three-ball package for only $50. The winner need not be present to win.

“The YMCA offers need-based assistance to help individuals and families access the programs most important to them,” said Rotary Club of Surprise Service Projects Chairwoman Amanda Sanchez. “The Rotary Club of Surprise is so grateful to be able to support them and help families in our community who otherwise would not have the means to afford childcare."

The Rotary Club of Surprise thanks to Kimbrell Electric for supplying the boom truck for their fundraiser as well as event supporter Sun City Country Club.
