Surprise Police Citizens Patrol needs volunteer recruits

The Surprise Police Department’s Citizens Patrol is actively recruiting residents who want to volunteer at least 20 hours a month to help the Surprise Police Department serve the community.

Members of the Citizens Patrol receive 30 hours of specialized training and are instrumental in helping at special events, assisting stranded motorists on our roadways, checking on homes while owners are on vacation and helping to set up police vehicles and equipment at incident scenes.

Volunteers in this program come from a wide variety of backgrounds, including teaching, nursing, engineering and military service. This diversity of skill sets helps to make this unique program so successful. Last year, Citizens Patrol members provided enough volunteer hours to equal about $600,000 in savings to the city.

Those interested in joining need to be at least 21 years of age, have a valid Arizona driver’s license and be able to pass a background check.

If you are interested in this volunteer opportunity, contact the Surprise Citizens Patrol at 623-222-4277 or citizenpatrol@surpriseaz.gov. Visit surpriseaz.gov/CitizensPatrol.
