The city of Surprise and Ottawa University-Arizona celebrated the eighth annual Partnership Day on Feb. 20, reaffirming their commitment to education and workforce development.
The event featured the annual Partnership Day Proclamation reading by Mayor Kevin Sartor and OUAZ Chancellor Bill Tsutsui, led by OUAZ President Dennis Tyner.
A highlight of the event was the introduction of the White Tank Fang Statue by SCDC Managing Partner Rick West and OUAZ Student Body President JT Head. This gift from the Surprise Center Development Company symbolizes the unity between the city and university.
Community leaders, including City Councilmember Johnny Melton and Economic Development Director Jeanine Jerkovic joined faculty, students and staff in celebrating this continued collaboration.
Partnership Day is celebrated annually on the third Thursday of February.
Tyner served as the event emcee and gave a welcome and warm introductions to all speakers. He presented Mayor Sartor with the “Partnership Mace,” which the Surprise Mayor carries each year during the OUAZ Commencement Ceremony.
