Valley Metro’s adjusment of its Express and RAPID commuter bus service schedules is bringing changes to the lines between Surprise and downtown Phoenix on April 6.
The transit company is adjusting the service schedules to operate fewer trips each weekday morning and evening. In a news release, it called it a “proactive step” to focus on local bus route service, which doesn’t include Surprise.
Route 571-Surprise Express makes two daily morning trips into Phoenix and two returning in the afternoon
The new schedule calls for morning trips to start at Surprise Park-and-Ride at 5:50 and 6:30 a.m with stops at 129th Avenue and Thunderbird Road, 1st Avenue and Van Buren Street and Adams Street and 18th Avenue.
The two routes will reach their end points at 7:13 and 7:53 a.m., respectively
For the two afternoon return trips, they begin at 18th Avenue and Jefferson Street at 4:08 and 5:09 p.m. with stops at Central Station, 129th Avenue and Thunderbird Road and the Surprise Park-and-Ride.
Those two routes reach the end at 5:35 and 6:36 p.m., respectively.
Local bus, circulators and light rail across the Valley continues to operate on regular schedules. Valley Metro officials said service is being closely monitored and could adjust based on resources.
“Public transit continues to serve as a lifeline for essential workers in the healthcare, government and social service sectors,” Valley Metro CEO Scott Smith said in a news release. “We are reallocating our skilled workforce of operators, supervisors and maintenance workers to focus on our local bus routes at this time.” Valley Metro officials said the company has experienced less demand for commuter trips. It is encouraging people only take necessary trips to help with U.S. Center for Disease Control’s guidelines, such as six-foot distancing.
